You need to be special

July 20, 2018

I was at the Bannerghatta Zoo a few days ago accompanying my nephew’s son, 6-year old, Ayaan.

We were among the bird cages where different types of birds were housed.

There was a sizeable crowd around the cages of the pheasants, the parakeets and the macaw parrots. They looked very exotic with those multicolored feathers. The other place where a crowd had collected was around a bunch of very noisy birds – I forget their name. They were creating quite a racket.

After spending some time at these cages, we passed by the cages where the Indian parrots were located. No one, not even children, were around. We also moved along. Outside the cages, several pigeons and crows could be seen picking on leftovers. No one paid any attention.

I was thinking: isn’t this a reflection of our life? If one is ordinary, no one pays much attention. It is only the special characteristics that attract attention.

In a career too, if our skills are commonplace, we are overlooked. If we bring something special to the table, we are valued.

What is special about you that can attract attention? If your skills have become too commonplace, it’s time to acquire something special. It could also be that you possess a very special skill but you have been quiet about it. It’s probably time to raise a racket.

So, what are you thinking?

Do you see a relevance of this post in your life? Happy to hear from you.
