Anticipation

June 11, 2018

In the third week of February when I ran a Motivational Speaking session, the client gifted me a sapling in a glass bowl.

I set it up near the window in my study. Honestly, I don’t have a knack for growing indoor plants and keeping them healthy. Anyway, in the mornings, I would keep the curtains parted for the soft sunlight to fall on the sapling. I used my judgement to keep the soil moist, always a little worried if I had poured too little or too much water.

It is June and the sapling has survived. I can finally see a new shoot emerging which tells me that something has worked.

It struck me that when we manage people, specially, someone who is going through a personal or professional crisis, it is best to let the person be, while we provide nourishment in the form of our motivation. Just being there for the person during those trying times is good enough.

At the appropriate time, be there to help part their curtains of self-doubt and let the sunshine of confidence fall softly on them.

They will survive and do well.

Do you have any experiences of having managed people going through a crisis? Happy to hear from you.
